1. What motivated you to become a floral designer?

My mother & grandmother were avid gardeners & plant lovers. Through their passion they taught me to treasure the fleeting beauties of the seasons. After years of working in the world of photography I decided to get a job at a flower shop and I never turned back.
{I just found the attached amazing photo of my mother as a young girl in my great grandfather's dahlia fields!}

2. Where do you go, what do you do for creative inspiration?

I am very much inspired by nature. There are so many beautiful colors, textures and shapes that offer endless inspiration!

3. You also operate The Little Flower School with Sarah Ryhanen of Saipua. Can you tell us a bit about the classes you offer?

Sarah & I decided to collaborate on a series of inspiring workshops that highlight some of our favorite blooms of the seasons. We discuss our inspirations, how to choose & arrange flowers, and we offer an enormous selection of flowers & foliage to create your own stunning masterpiece. You can find our class schedule & photos of our and our students work on our collaborative blog: http://little-flower-school.blogspot.com/

4. Favorite part of your job?

Tha's a hard one.. there are so many things I love about my job... It is such a joy to have my hands on the most beautiful blooms daily! It is also incredibly fulfilling to put all of my creative energy into making something gorgeous and then giving it away!

5. What is your favorite season and favorite flower of that season?

This is an even harder question! I love each season for different reasons...Peonies, foxglove & herbs in the summer, ranunculus, anemones & hellebores in the winter, frittillaria, lilac & blossoming branches in the spring, dahlias, scabiosa & beautiful foliage and berries in autumn... I could go on and on! Tweet This
